12 Ways of Giving

It’s been a challenging nine months, and we couldn’t have done it without you. You supported us after we canceled all three of our in-person fundraisers and moved all of our grief support programming to a virtual format.

We invite you to join us for 12 Days of Giving — a fun intiative to raise funds for our Winter 2021 grief support groups, while we partner with local businesses, and celebrate YOUR generosity!

  • Every day from December 1st – 12th, we’ll highlight a different option for making a year-end gift to Full Circle.
  • We have something for everyone, ranging from purchasing supplies on our Amazon Wish List to sponsorship of a participant or family in one of our groups.
  • As a small token of our appreciation, every donation will be entered to win one of our 12 prize packages — all generously donated by local businesses right here in RVA.

Day 1: $150 Grief Group Session

Your donation of $150 supports the facilitation by a licensed professional for one group session, lasting approximately 2 hours.

“The deeper we love, the harder we grieve; therefore, it should be expected that grieving is a process and journey that takes time, companionship, and support along the way. Full Circle is here to partner with those who want and need professional expertise from a place that values the normalcy of all types and relationships related to grief and loss.”

Britt Cowart, Grief Services Director

“Full Circle has truly made a difference in my life. Coming here has made me realize that we’re not alone and that there are others going through this also.”

Day 2: $10 Therapy Dough

Therapy dough is a wonderful relaxation tool for group participants and individual counseling clients. We need more containers than we usually do as we want to provide each client with his or her own, due to COVID safety precautions.

Day 3: $100 Journeying Through Grief Program

Your $100 donation will sponsor one of our Journeying Through Grief programs — a series of educational workshops with different topics each month. Led by a professional counselor, the group explores various topics during each meeting which allows for connections with others, therapeutic activities, and group discussion.

Day 4: $15 Books for our Resource Library

We have a variety of books on our wish list that are used by group participants and individual counseling clients to understand their grief journey and give them practical ideas to support them during difficult times. These include remembrance journals, daily meditations, and books specific for different losses.

Day 5: $50 Hands on Healing Art Supplies

“As an individual therapist I utilize art materials in my work with clients who are grieving because I believe art to not only be inherently healing, but to provide an alternative way for children and adolescents to explore their feelings of grief and loss. One of my favorite art-based interventions to do with children who are grieving is to read “The Memory Box” together and then invite them to create their own memory box, a special place where the child can store memorabilia and write memories they wish to hold on to.”

Rachel Melhorn, LCSW, Family Bereavement Services Manager

Day 6: $950 Adult Sponsorship

Your donation of $950 will support an adult in one of our 8 week programs (Overdose Loss, Suicide Loss, Perinatal Loss). This includes: a psychosocial assessment before group begins, 8 weeks of professionally-led peer support, crisis and clinical case management before, during, and after group, and educational, administrative, and art/craft materials to be used during group sessions.

“My husband, Adam, and I completed two Perinatal Loss Groups after our daughter, Logan, died at 23 weeks gestation. My experience was so impactful, I joined the Board of Directors at Full Circle to help other families like ours access support to grieve the death of their loved one(s). Adam and I are passionate about dismantling the stigma related to grief and starting a larger, community conversation about how we can all better support those grieving. Full Circle is an extension of our family and we feel closer to Logan because of their support.”

Jillian Carpenter, Board Member, Volunteer, and Full Circle Supporter

“Full Circle offered me support and community after losing my sister to suicide. Their support helped me get through one of the most difficult times in my life.”

Day 7: $10 Coloring Books

We have a variety of coloring books and color pencils on our wish list. Our group participants and individual counseling clients use these for stress release and relaxation during difficult times.

Day 8: $200 Case Management Follow Up

Once an individual or family registers for a group, the program’s clinical manager becomes their point of contact at Full Circle. This manager is a social worker or counselor who meets with them before the group sessions begin, to learn about their experiences, stressors, and goals for the group.  The clinical manager checks in with them throughout the group, providing any support, referrals, or crisis assistance that is necessary.

After the group, our clinical managers check in with our group participants numerous times for at least 18 months after the group ends, to help with changing needs or any crisis situations that may arise. We believe this long-term connection with our group participants is extremely important as we know the need for grief support does not stop after the group ends.

“I’m so proud to be part of an organization that offers grieving families in my hometown the care and support that they vitally need.”

Carrie Schaeffer, LCSW, Perinatal Bereavement Services Manager

Day 9: $550 Child Sponsorship

Hands on Healing Family Groups are a way for loved ones to share their stories of loss, and connect with others. They explore feelings, develop healthy coping skills, and discover new ways to remember loved ones.

Your donation of $550 will support a child in our 8 week, Hands on Healing program. This includes: a psychosocial assessment before group begins, 8 weeks of professionally-led peer support, crisis and clinical case management before, during, and after group, and educational, administrative, and art/craft materials to be used during group sessions.

“Group was helpful because I like to be with people who have gone through the same grief I have. It helped me to not feel so alone.”

Sarah, Age 9

“Group helped me because I was able to talk to people who have experienced the same thing as me and have gone through what I have gone through.”

Emma, Age 10

Day 10: $25 Worry Stones

These stones are a beautiful item that our group participants and individual counseling clients can keep in their pockets or close to them to use as a remembrance piece to honor their loved one or to rub when feeling stressed or anxious.

Day 11: $300 Conversations About Grief

Conversations About Grief (CAG) are a series of educational programs hosted by Full Circle with the goal of increasing the community conversation about death, dying, and loss.

Day 12: $1350 Family Sponsorship

Hands on Healing Family Groups are a way for loved ones to share their stories of loss, and connect with others. They explore feelings, develop healthy coping skills, and discover new ways to remember loved ones.

We know there is still much uncertainty as we look to 2021, but we are confident that we will continue to adapt and grow in order to provide the grief support our community needs.

Will you join us for the 12 Days of Giving to help set us up for success next year?
