Coping Skills to Build Resilience for First Responders
Tuesday, August 23
6:00-7:00PM
Virtual Zoom Meeting
First responders have the wonderful and difficult job of helping people in the worst of circumstances. Facing trauma and loss at work on a regular basis can become a challenge for these professionals to maintain mental, emotional and physical wellness for themselves, and can sometimes lead to symptoms that get in the way of living and working. When personal loss is thrown into the mix, the situation can become even more challenging. Research has shown that mindfulness- based coping strategies are supportive for managing grief and loss, as well as general stress by strengthening the parasympathetic nervous system, decreasing symptoms of anxiety, and improving sleep and mood.
Rachel Machacek, LCSW and therapist at Full Circle will lead this conversation. During this presentation, we will discuss the way mindfulness coping strategies work and how to incorporate them in work and life routines. Part of this presentation will be practicing meditation and breathing exercises in the group setting together. This presentation is offered to first responders and their families.
Registration is required. Space is limited so please register early. This program is open to Virginia residents only. QUESTIONS? Contact Elizabeth Bennett, at 804.912.2947, ext.130 or elizabeth@fullcirclegc.org.
